Job Description for Fundraising Assistant

The Fundraising Assistant is a staff member of the Saint John of God Association.

Position:                      Fundraising Assistant – Programme Funding & Advocacy

Responsible to:           CEO, Saint John of God Association.

Reporting to:               Fundraising Manager – Programme Funding, Saint John of God Foundation

The reporting responsibility may change during the course of the contract.

Our mission is to raise funds for the charitable works of Saint John of God Hospitaller Services Group and to articulate the ethos, values and philosophy of Saint John of God.

 Person Specification

Education: Educated to Degree level with a knowledge of grant writing, grant management and advocacy in an international development environment
Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a charity or similar environment
Computer Literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and in particular Microsoft Excel.

  • Grant writing
  • Experience of working with colleagues in a fundraising team across different countries
  • Advocating with funding bodies and other agencies in International Development
  • Organised
  • Capacity to confidently handle relationships with donors
  • An ability to work in an environment where performance is measured against specific targets
Confidentiality: The Fundraising Assistant may have access to information concerning the medical or personal affairs of clients and/or staff or other Centre/Service business.  Such records and information are strictly confidential and unless acting on the instruction of an authorised person, on no account must information concerning staff or clients or other centre/service business be divulged or discussed except in the performance of normal duty.  In addition, records may never be left in such a manner that unauthorised persons can obtain access to them and must be kept in safe custody when no longer required.

 

Job Purpose

The Saint John of God Association recognises the strong need to increase restricted income funding for the Saint John of God service in Malawi.

 

Job Description

  • Research potential funding organisations.
  • Write good quality grant applications.
  • Manage successful grants with programme colleagues.
  • Represent and promote the charity’s values, ethos and policies.

 

Key Accountabilities Performance Outcomes
Develop and execute plans to find new restricted income donors Number of new donors meets agreed targets
Develop on-going and dynamic relationships with programme implementation colleagues Effective internal relationships that support proposal development and timely project reporting
Research the market to identify potential new donors The addition of new funding sources every quarter
Provide high quality and timely reports to funders Reports submitted to expected deadlines
Ensure Charity legislation is implemented and adhered to fully The work managed by the post holder will be fully compliant Charity legislation
Contribute to the development of fundraising by being active in fundraising planning work and in team meetings Contribute to meetings and build learning on other areas of fundraising

Main Terms & Conditions

Contract type:           12 month contract

Hours:                        35 hours per week

Pension:                     N/A

Salary:                        £30,000.

Holidays:                    25 days per year pro rata
